Author Links

Here are some links to some of my absolute favorite writers of today - most of them are young adult writers! But check them out anyway. I guarantee they rock!

Libba Bray

Libba is probably my favorite writer ever - aside from (or beside of) F. Scott Fitzgerald and Sylvia Plath. I love her style so much. A Great and Terrible Beauty is such a masterpiece! (I may write a review of it later, and it's companion Rebel Angels as I plan to re-read them both before the third book, The Far, Sweet Thing comes out in December) I remember the first time I saw AGATB at the bookstore, I thought the cover was hella cool and that the story sounded good but I wasn't sure if I really wanted to read it. So months pass and everytime I go to Borders I see this book sitting face out on display in the YA section and finally, I decide that yes, I need this book. And I'm so glad that I did! I can never put it down when I read it, and I usually get through it within a week, which is fast for me lol. She is absolutely my writing idol and not only do I hope to meet her one day, but I hope I am half the writer she is!

Holly Black

Ahh Holly Black. Another one who definately tops my list. Her novel Tithe is a fabulous, gritty, urban fantasy for YAs, and I've read it twice already. Not something I actually do - I rarely re-read a book, so if I do, you know I truly love it. Holly is another author I hope to meet and write like one day. Every time I read her stuff I always want to put pen to paper and write out my own Faery story. Hopefully one day I'll have the time to put into it! :)

Rachel Cohn

Rachel Cohn, while not a fantasy writer, is just as fabu as Libba and Holly. She rounds out my Author Trifecta. Gingerbread, Shrimp and Cupcake, the three books in the Cyd Charisse trilogy always top my list of favorite books. (Yes, I said Cyd Charisse - the main character is named after the famous and gorgeous dancer of the same name, who I also am a huge fan of) Her writing style/voice is just so different: attitudnal and unique and completely hilarious. I actually won an advanced copy of Cupcake when I entered a contest on her MySpace page. It was brilliant and I was thrilled. She signed it and everything! Now I hope to meet her also and get the other two signed. She also writes Nick and Norah's Infinite Playlist which I own but have not read yet. Soon. Very soon. Rachel rocks, so check her out!

Vivian Vande Velde

VVV is an author I just discovered, literally, over the weekend. I bought one of her books, "Being Dead" which is a collection of short ghost stories. I have read about 4 or 5 out of the 7 included and just absolutely LOVE them! A couple of them actually gave me goose bumps and that's pretty frickin' good for a horror writer! She inspires me to work on getting out my own ghost stories - including the one I cooked up for my original character Karma. I look forward to reading more of her stuff!

Juliet Marillier

Juliet is the fabulous writer who gave us Wildwood Dancing, which I reviewed here at Lit Grrl. I'm still in love with WD and most likely will re-read it in the future! I bought one of her adult fantasy novels, Daughter of the Forest and look forward to that one. I usually can't get into adult fantasy for some reason but I trust that Juliet will be different, and maybe will change that.

Stephanie Meyer

Ms. Meyer wrote the book I am currently reading, New Moon, the sequel to her popular Twilight novel. The Bella/Edward series, vampires this time. Most of what I read is very dark in some way: vampires, witches, ghosts, some kind of other realm. New Moon thus far is, in my opinion, better then Twilight, but I'll get into that when I finish the book and review it here. It's very imaginative while staying pretty normal (through Bella's eyes) I hope to finish it soon!

Kim Harrison

Another book I'm currently reading, and am almost finished with, is Kim's book Dead Witch Walking - which is reallyreally great! It's the Rachel Morgan series, about a witch who hunts evil, basically. Once I finish it I will review it, but I really love it and hope to finish it very soon! Then I need to get the second book in the series. :) Kim is definately one I will keep up with! (I guess she counts as adult fantasy yes?)

Ellen Schreiber

Not to play down her writing or anything, but I have to say, that I absolutely love the covers of her novels! lol. Her stories are about a goth girl who is obsessed with vampires (vamps again!) and her adventures in dealing with them in her boring town of Dullsville. It's a fabulous series and the next one, book 4 Dance with a Vampire comes out July 3. I think I will pre-order it! Ellen is one of my faves!
